On May 13, 2026, BioGaia Philippines (BGP) was honored to sponsor the UPDAA (University of the Philippines Dental Alumni Association) alumni lunch meet-up, “MeetUP: Ugnayan at Pagkikita.” The gathering welcomed 46 participants—a turnout higher than expected—composed largely of dentists and highly respected academic leaders, including faculty members and former deans from institutions such as UP, UE, and NU.
Notably, the UPDAA community shared that this reunion-style gathering was held again after around 10 years, making the atmosphere especially warm, lively, and meaningful.
“What are probiotics?” — a 15-minute, science-first introduction
During the program, I delivered a short talk titled “What are probiotics?” designed as a friendly scientific icebreaker, not a long product presentation. The focus was on the fundamentals clinicians should use when evaluating probiotics:
- Definition matters: what “probiotics” actually means
- CFU is not enough: the strain identity and clinical evidence matter
- Strain matters: the same species does not guarantee the same effect
- Safety matters: selection should consider evidence and patient context
- Oral health is about balance: the mouth is a living microbial ecosystem, not a sterile space
Trivia-style interaction and small prizes
To keep the session interactive, we ran a short trivia quiz based on the key takeaways. Participants who answered received a small prize—a BioGaia Prodentis logo plush—which helped turn technical concepts like “strain” and “evidence” into an engaging conversation.
Strong interest in BioGaia—and discussion on academic collaboration
Beyond the talk, many attendees showed genuine interest in BioGaia and oral probiotics. We also had valuable discussions around potential university-based collaboration, including the idea of developing student-focused educational sessions that use BioGaia products as a practical learning topic.
For BGP, these conversations are central to our mission: ensuring probiotics are understood correctly and applied responsibly and practically in real clinical settings.
Samples and an invitation to visit our PDA booth
We also provided samples and briefly introduced BioGaia’s oral health offering. In addition, we encouraged attendees to continue the conversation by visiting our ongoing event booth—Booth No. 115—as shown in the presentation materials.
